Jon's apartment, Monday evening
It was hard to be more-or-less-politely anti-American while not also being overly imperialistic. Jon hoped he'd managed it - he'd bought and hung up a British flag, but the English, Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish flags were also stood around, as well as an Irish one in case Clare showed up and a few Canadian ones that if he were asked were totally there because Canada had been British during the American revolution.
There were cider and beer, and Jon could probably be persuaded to break out the gin and whisky if asked; there was no actual stereo, but his phone was hooked up to speakers and playing The Clash.
He couldn't think of anything else to do but wait. Parties weren't exactly his strong point. He hoped Irene was right and a small gathering was within his abilities.
He left the door open and desperately hoped somebody would come.
[Open post, open party! Americans will have to sneak in/crash, but all forms of Brits and aliens are welcome!]

The door was open so Steven came in and looked around for Jon or anyone else to say hello to.

"Right. Congrats and all that to the Americans for kicking the monarchy off their necks, may we eventually do the same!"
Sorry, Jon, but this John was the 'severely anti-imperialistic and highly pro-free will' John. But he'd gleefully drink to celebrate a mutual home-and-hearth.

Even worse than when Irene had left the country, honestly.

He’d even be adding to the available alcohol selection with a bottle of wine.
His hat, naturally, was discarded as soon as he made it though the door, dangled from one of many thumbtacks in a cork board on the wall.

Now that Summer could keep some stocks at the store, too, she didn't even feel bad about brining along a bottle of arrack. Because that was what this party clearly needed. More booze.
But hers was from space!

Spoiler: It would be awful, but he'd try his best.

Between being the newbie in town and not really knowing anyone, Connor had debated not even bothering. But he figured he'd never get to know anyone if all he did was hid out in the museum and back office all the time. And so there he was, standing at the door that he hoped was the right one, with a case of Gin and Tonic cans.
He took a deep breath and then walked in, looking around as he did.

She was also bearing a discreet carrier bag with Pimm's No. 1, ginger ale, mint and fresh strawberries to add to the selection of beverages. Might as well be a bit precious about the whole affair, right?

And cue the geeky stammering suddenly tongue tied Connor in all his glory. You were getting a nice smile and an awkwardly shy wave though Irene.
"Evening," he finally managed. "Quite the little shindig aint it? I'm Connor by the way" he added as he held out his hand.
